More information

Moray Council and Rothes Community Playpark Group want to hear your views about plans for the upgrade of Rothes Playpark.

Two designs have been developed for you to choose from and comment on. These designs are based on extensive consultation with the children in Rothes and the wider community.

We would like your feedback to help decide on a final design. Through extensive fundraising by Rothes Community Playpark Group both designs are possible including the optional extras detailed.

The Castle themed Megadeck has it all: varied climbing and sliding on different levels. It can be accessed on the inside as well as the outside.  Inside the tower, challenging climbing rope rungs lead to the upper platform. From the outside, a tall, curved climbing net offers both an easy and more difficult climb to the top. This depends whether the child chooses the big or the small mesh sized side of the net.

The lower platform can be accessed via a rock climber. From the platforms there are three variations of heights and options for getting back to ground level. The lowest is a wide slide which provides extra support, midway is the dare devil fireman’s pole and at the very top is a large slide that provides a tummy tickling. Themed elements include a flag, a cannon, stone effect panels, the lions crest, a lookout balcony and panels with cross cut outs for spying.  These themed features encourage dramatic play and therefore stimulate social interaction and communication.

The exciting Caravelle Ship offers multiple play opportunities. It will inspire dramatic and active play, supporting the development of children’s muscles as well as their social and cognitive skills. This is essential for early development, language in particular. Carefully designed play elements such as the steering wheel encourage exploration and dramatic play, stimulating logical thinking and language skills. The boarding net provides a physical challenge, stimulating cross-coordination and proprioception. These are important for a child to feel secure in the world. The slide down is the reward! The hammock at ground level extends the play with its swaying play invitation and develops the sense of balance.

ALL OPTIONAL EXTRAS ARE NOW INCLUDED DUE TO MEETING THE FUNDING TARGET.

The space will be divided into two themed areas, providing play opportunities for younger and older users. A Pirate Ship dominates the toddler area providing imaginative, role play opportunities with a wealth of additional play features. The pirate theme continues with a boat springer and the Talking Pirates.

Older users are treated to a castle themed multi play that despite the compact size features twin  towers, a slide, fireman’s pole and climbing wall and scramble nets. The Spin-a-Bounce offers dynamic  play alongside a 25m cableway.

Both play areas feature age appropriate swings and the DDA roundabout and much of the new  equipment provides inclusive play opportunities.

Different coloured wet pour with themed inlaid graphics, marks out the two different spaces and a  new path will link the main pathway to the play and picnic area and cableway station, allowing a  smooth transition for wheelchairs and buggies. All equipment will be manufactured from steel  providing durability with low maintenance and painted in bright colours adding to the playful nature  of the new play area.

A French drain will be installed along two sides of the play area to help remove access water from the  land, allowing the green spaces to be enjoyed for free, non-prescriptive play.

All of the required elements have been included within our design, including additional items, and our  design allows for the play area to be easily extended. The optional equipment, will fit seamlessly  within the current design, providing further play value for both age groups.
