What design would you like to see installed at Hopeman Play Park? Please choose from one of the design submissions below:

Option A - Kompan

Our design for Hopeman is suitable for children aged 2 to 5 and 5 to 12, as set out in the tender documentation. We have included all equipment in your specification and repaired the surfacing area at the embankment slide.

We have used metal equipment for this site due to its robustness and longevity. The equipment will blend in with the natural environment and be easy on the eye for the nearby houses. We chose an open and transparent unit to prevent groups of children from gathering in it and creating a “den” or social nuisance. It also allows for clear lines of sight throughout.

Inclusivity and accessibility are considered throughout the site, from the accessible ship to our inclusive roundabout, as well as a basket swing, games, sensory panels, and even an ice cream parlour. A high level of inclusive options has been provided across the play equipment, and the design of the play area will allow for high levels of playing together. The park will encourage imaginative and inclusive play and be suitable for children with additional support needs where possible.

In play design we aim to provide all the key play activities that children love such as climbing, sliding, spinning, balancing, seesawing, challenge, and role/imaginative play opportunities.  We have chosen equipment so that children of different age groups, interests and abilities can use this play area flexibly, either individually or with their friends.

Option B - Sutcliffe

Hopeman play park off Harbour Street is a great space for all to come play and relax along with a nice trip to the beaches and harbour.

Working to the Council’s brief we aim to renew all the items requested to ensure the play park is enjoyed by many generations for years to come. There will be play options for every child on site with accessible items, interactive equipment but also large dynamic items for older ages.

The “Boat climber” and “Seaside and Sandcastle” units give two main age range options for children to play with but also allow them to challenge their own ability levels! Our communication panel and nature activity station bring more inclusive values to the play park.

  • The activity station allows for investigation and exploration of what the features the children can play with, whether it be together or by themselves.

We aim to provide a range of activities and the inclusion of fitness equipment will help older children be as active as possible while outdoors. This can be expanded on into the future.

Children coming to play will have the choice of being able to zoom down the exhilarating zip slide, spin with friends on the inclusive dish, fly high in the basket swing.

Many of the items we are proposing tie back into a nautical theme that directly related to the history of Hopeman’s fishing community. This will inspire children to look into the harbour and think on origins of the village.

Option C - Wicksteed

We have designed an inclusive play space for Moray offering a variety of play features for toddler to junior aged children. A range if equipment has been chosen to feature, swinging, climbing, rotating, sensory and imaginative play.

The equipment is a mixture of steel, HDPE and timber. Due to the coastal location, our steel will be thermal zinc sprayed to 250 microns which surpasses the limits of Hot Dip Galvanising (HDG), which is ideal for settings such as Hopeman Play Area, which require extra protection due to the proximity to the coast.

Our HDPE panelling is vandal resistant, easy to clean, UV, moisture and chemical resistant and virtually maintenance free, for longevity and durability.

Our timber products are treated using the Tanalith E pressure treatment process, where the timber is impregnated with wood preservative under in a vacuum pressure timber impregnation plant. Tanalith E pressure treated timber has a long term protection against fungal and insect attack, including termites, for both in and out of ground contact, interior and exterior for durability and longevity.

The bark pit will be removed and reinstated with soil and turf, allowing for grass mats to be laid for the new kit, as a cost effective safety surfacing. All new kit has been laid out with enough free space between and existing equipment to prevent any possibility of collision. New seating will be installed so parents and carers can supervise children, and a new bin to keep the play area clean and tidy
